Why not attend the BIA and Writing the Plan course usually run on the following days?

This course can also be run in-house

Summary

Have you just been given responsibility for Business Continuity in your organisation, or as a manager, feel you should know more about it? This course will provide the newcomer with an outline of the important issues, concentrating on generating enthusiasm and commitment rather than on methods.

This covers in outline the ten certification standards defined by the BCI and uses the BS 25999-1 as a structure for the course.  For a more detailed course look at the three day Business Continuity Foundation course

Duration

One day - DB&B available the night before if required

Aims

  • Understand the need for continuity planning

  • Appreciate the scope of the discipline through the 10 skill standards

  • Understand, in outline, the PAS 56 methodology

  • Be aware of the range of available strategies

  • Recognise the key elements of a continuity plan

  • Be ready to initiate or participate in a continuity programme

Outline

  • Why have a plan?

  • What are the basic concepts and terminology?

  • How do we determine key requirements?

  • What strategies are available?

  • What form should the plan take?

  • How do we test it?

  • Where do I start?

Format

The course uses a stimulating mix of instruction, discussion, group activities, games and video. A workbook containing course slides and supporting materials is provided.

No specific preparation is required for the course and the dress code is smart casual. However it would be useful if you have looked at the BCI's Good Practice Guidelines (2005) (from www.thebci.org)

The location

This 1-day course runs several times a year and is usually held at the spectacularly-sited Cotswold Conference Centre near Evesham.  The catering at the Conference Centre is excellent and there is usually plenty of choice, including a vegetarian option.   Venue information
